ROCK GODDESS - ORIGINAL LINE-UP REFORMS

Rock Goddess the female power trio from the days of NWOBHM have reformed with the original line up of sisters Jody and Julie Turner and bassist Tracey Lamb.

Lamb made the surprise announcement on her Facebook page last week with the message: "I'm very pleased to announce that after 30 years the Original Rock Goddess line up has reformed (Jody, Julie & Tracey) and will start to record a new album asap with the provisional title 'Unfinished Business' :)"

This has also been confirmed by the Turners' father and manager John Turner.

The band was formed in Wandsworth South London as early as 1977, by sisters Jody Turner (Guitar and vocals) and Julie Turner (Drums) when they were thirteen and nine years old respectively. They recruited school friend Tracey Lamb on bass guitar.

They first rose to the nation's awareness when they were first featured in Kerrang No.5 in 1981 in the 'Armed And Ready' section with Julie and Tracey were just sixteen years old and Julie being two years younger at fourteen, as one of the bands to watch out for.

Meanwhile, John Turner, Jody and Julie's father, who ran a music shop, used his connections to get the band their first gigs. Finally, after the production of a four track demo tape and an appearance at the Reading Festival in 1982 sharing a bill with Iron Maiden, plus regular shows at the Marquee Club the band obtained a recording contract with the A&M label.

They released their eponymous debut album with producer Vic Maile in 1983 and the hit the lower end of the charts but were an instant hit with heavy rock fans who were astonished by the ballsy voice of Turner and meaty hooks and riffs from the band. Rock Goddess had another hit album a year later with 'Hell Hath No Fury' which by this time Tracey Lamb had left the band to form She and later to join Girlschool.

After their contract with A&M expired in 1987, Rock Goddess' already recorded (in 1985) third album was released only in France, with the title 'Young And Free'. which took on a more commercial route However, their career was cut short by financial and contractual problems, which forced them to disband shortly thereafter.

The band did briefly reform in 2009 and were due to play Hard Rock Hell festival in Prestatyn, and were also booked to perform at the Headbangers Open Air Festival in Germany the following Summer but split before they had a chance to perform.
The reformation is exciting news and one that many rock fans will await with high anticipation. MetalTalk will keep you posted...

In the meantime enjoy the beauty of Rock Goddess with these great clips below of tracks from their debut album from 1982 'Rock Goddess'... Heavy Metal rock n' roll all the way baby!
